If it was purchased under your daughter's account she has an agreement with the catalogue company to pay for the phone.
Her friend then has an agreement to pay your daughter for the phone.
So your daughter will have to pay the catalogue for the phone and then send a letter before action in the post to her friends address, followed by small claims to reclaim the money her friend owes.
Hopefully your daughter has something (texts, emails, social media messages) stating the agreement to buy the phone so the friend can't turn around and say it was a gift.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
Exactly as above. It's your daughter's debt to pay and then her responsibility to try and recover the money from her friend.1

Best bet in this instance would be to check the contract. Both to see if it makes clear she's liable and also to review whether it might amount ot a contract of employmentYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride1
