Lastminute voucher - what happens if I book a fully refundable room? Will I get another voucher?

I have finally been issued with a voucher for my cancelled hotel booking from lastminute dot com.  I was entitled to this back in October 2020, but finally it has been sorted.

I have a question about the voucher however:

  • When I use the voucher, if I select a fully refundable room and if I have to cancel the booking for any reason, will I automatically get another voucher for the amount or is this asking too much from lastminute?

Not sure whether to pay extra for a fully cancellable room or not!  If the system automatically issues another voucher, then it makes sense to pay the extra!  If there is no advantage, then it makes sense paying the lower price and taking the risk!

Once I have used the voucher, I will NEVER USE LASTMINUTE AGAIN!  I had similar Coronavirus bookings with "hotels dot com" and "bookings dot com" and the refunds situation was a lot smoother, quicker and less stressful! Lastminute have the cheek of sending me emails trying to encourage me to book future holidays with them!!! Yeah, right!!!

I suspect it would be a voucher refund.

I would be very warry of booking a inflexible, non-refundable room rate unless you are comfortable about walking away from your money if you can't travel.

Glad to hear you won't be using Lastminute.com again.  Equally be careful who you use for replacement travel plans.  Lots have reported issues with these cheaper selling online type outfits, many based outside the UK. Question if the saving is genuine and worth the hassle factor if travel plans change.

"Fully Refundable" will be the hotel's room cancellation terms.  That means they will refund LM.com, and as above, I assume LM.com would refund you via the method you booked, which in this case would be a voucher.

There is always an advantage to a fully flexible booking.  If you book a non-refundable rate, and the hotel is open on your stay dates, you likely wouldn't be entitled to a refund if you can't get there due to government restrictions.
