You should contact your insurer first thing tomorrow morning and tell them that you have sold the car that the policy is for.Samjef11 said:Hello needs some advice please I would have 2 years ncd when my insurance policy with sterling insurance ends on 6th May this year I have sold my car that my car insurance policy is currently running on and ncd my question can i notify my insurance company and ask them to transfer my policy to another vehicle/car and would I loose this years no claim discount discount? If the person who bought it from you has an at fault accident and doesn't have insurance to cover the vehicle, your insurer is legally obliged to cover any third party losses due to there still be a policy in place for the car and as you hadn't informed them of the change of ownership, they could well decide to attempt to reclaim their costs from you.2 -
Yes, it's perfectly normal to change cars on the same policy, and your NCD will be intact. There may be an admin charge, and the premium may go up or down a bit depending on the cars. What you must not do is keep the policy running if you're without a car. If there's only going to be a short gap, ask the insurer to suspend the policy, otherwise cancel.1

The person who I sold the car to is young driver 18 years of age she did take out car insurance policy as her dad was sorting it out I met both of her parents and all seemed genuine enough I imagine the cost to insure a car at that age is quite high? Car in question is a Renault Clio i-music 2011 1.2 16v engine. Insurance group for that type make of car is group 9.David713 said:

I have already notified DVLA yesterday 10th March online of sale of vehicle to new keeper.
I will phone up Sterling Insurance later today in the morning and tell them about transferring my existing policy to another vehicle that I will be using for a short while.
Saving up for a quite newish second hand car that economical to run and barely nothing to tax and insurance plus got to be white. 🙂
