Nationwide FlexPlus Travel Insurance Warning

Just to advise anybody who has a Nationwide FlexPlus bank account that if you book a holiday at the moment even if it is for next year and the FCO advice is against travelling there when you book, you will not be covered even if that advice is lifted by the time you travel. That includes cover for  things like being unable to travel after breaking your leg even though the FCO advice has been lifted. So if you book a holiday at the moment you will not be covered for your trip with the FlexPlus cover regardless of the reason of your claim because you booked when the FCO advised against it.

As do other travel insurance policies.
  • Axa said you would be covered if the FCO advice is lifted.

Insurance is for unknown events, and Coronavirus (plus the current travel ban) are known events.

If an insurer wishes to cover this they can, and indeed some are for travel from May, however they are under no obligation to do so as the rules may change.

Aviva are therefore completely in the right here.
