Switching mobile provider - Sim Only

I've been with Vodafone for years on SIM only deals, I get the 15% Vantage discount and generally negotiate down their monthly contract price. I renew this every 12 months when the initial fixed period ends.
I'm seriously considering switching to Giff Gaff whilst retaining the same mobile number, however I'm a bit confused on how to do this and also when to switch over. I don't want to incur any exit/penalty fees.
Do I need to inform Vodafone that I'm leaving? Or will Giff Gaff deal with everything?
I also read there is a 'text-to-switch' service, should I use this method or go via conventional route?
Any help much appreciated.

To keep your number you can login to your Vodafone account and request a PAC Code and give it to your new provider. Once the new provider has processed the PAC code if you don't have to pay anything to Vodafone they will just close your account. Texting PAC to 65075 will achieve the same thing. Also, is there any specific reason you want to go with GiffGaff as you can probably get better deals.george4064 said:I've been with Vodafone for years on SIM only deals, I get the 15% Vantage discount and generally negotiate down their monthly contract price. If you're still within a minimum contract then yes they'll charge. If you're on a rolling contract, then you'll just pay until the point you switch. - does sometimes take a while for the final bill to work itself out. I've done it several times without a hitch with various providers.george4064 said:

I seem to recall that if you text 65075 for your Pac, it will tell you any fees in the return message. Getting the PAC doesn't commit you to anything - if you don't use the PAC in 30 days, it expires anyway.
If you get a decent signal with Vodaone, have you looked at Lebara or Voxi sim only?2 -
Thanks, I’ll look at Lebara and Voxi. I’m actually very happy with Vodafone’s coverage and speeds.flashg67 said:
