Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
edited 19 May at 4:55PM in Coronavirus Board
Good Morning,
Im hoping to book a couple of UK based holidays for my immediate family (myself, husband and two young children) for the end of the summer holiday and autumn half term. I was wondering if anyone has any Travel Insurance recommendations that would cover us in the event of national or regional lockdown restrictions coming back.
Thanks

The CMA has said in the event of a UK lockdown preventing you from accessing a hotel, hotel cottage, caravan park etc. in the UK then the supplier should refund you, so if you book with a reputable supplier you might not need insurance to cover that.  However, that doesn't extend to someone in your family catching COVID or being told to self-isolate because you've been in contact with someone who has tested positive, for that you need insurance.

Coverwise and Staysure are two of the insurers who provide a level of protection against COVID, no insurer covers everything COVID related so it's a case of reading the policies and deciding which protection best suits your needs.

If the UK goes back to tiers you could have the problem of the premises being open and available but , because of the tier you are in  you cannot travel.
That is not a national lockdown so complicates the matter.

There's a real balancing act. Staycations will be very popular again this year, so everything will book up fast. Yet booking carries a risk.

I'd try to book accommodation from someone reputable, which is fully refundable.

    Hi everyone
Am looking for some help with long term insurance please?  Wont be leaving until the day prior to the possible lifting of restrictions in May, but not returning until mid July and obviously as bookings are made I need cover as of today.  I am not travelling in Europe or USA, but will need worldwide cover.  I have eligibility to travel as its for medical assistance.  My question is, does anyone know if I can get long term that covers me for that period on one single trip or will I need to take out an insurance and if that only covers 30 days, will I need to take out a new one?  Many of the insurance companies won't quote until travel after May 17.  If anyone has experience of this, I would be appreciate any info you can share.

    Thank you :)

You cannot use ordinary travel insurance if you are travelling for medical treatment, You would need to find specialist insurance for that.
You would also need cover for FCO advice against travelling if that still applied
You normally have to to be in UK to buy insurance so buying it for any extra time after you are abroad could be difficult. You would need cover with somebody like World Nomads but they might not  cover travelling against , FCO advice for example or travelling for medical reasons.
You need to make a list of what cover you require and contact sone companies to see if they will cover you.

Thank you for your reply. I totally agree with having to jump through hoops.  Thankfully, I am not going for my own medical treatment, but in order to assist someone following their treatment and I am eligible to travel under the "family reuniting" for this situation. All a bit of a nightmare. If this was a "jolly" I wouldn't even be contemplating travelling with the forward planning  and paperwork that's going on lol.

Travel insurance needs to be bought at time of booking. Any delay will provide the insurer with the right to void any subsequent claims.
