Furlough/redundancy

Options
Hi
My sister and her colleague have been put into redundancy consultation by her employer, she worked through this recent lockdown whilst her colleague was furloughed, she is 60 years old so the chances of re-employment are limited in the current climate. My question is, can she request to be furloughed rather than work 3 months as it has now been extended to September, this gives her 6 months to seek another job and still have an income, rather than 3? Incidentally, she will only receive 1 month pay due to a short service.
I would be grateful for any advice on behalf of my sister
regards
Claire

Sounds as if it's your sister that will be retained.

In answer to your question. The company is making redundancies to save costs. Furloughing doesn't achieve this. Holiday pay , pension and other costs will accrue.
