Contested will when no probate?

If a will Is leaving only money and the amounts are below the limits the banks require probate for, what would happen if the executor distributed the will as instructed but at some point later it was contested?
would there be a time limit to contest a will that did not require probate? I know it’s 6 months for most contested reasons if probate has been granted.
TIA
