Assuming you can prove the debt has been settled then ignore the letters.

The only problem with ignoring the letters is the plaintiffs could take the matter to court which although they may lose it's time consuming and a pain. My advice would be to write to SSE via signed-for post explaining the matter.

I doubt it will go further, the fact they've paid up has probably just "crossed in the post" with SSE's instruction to the debt agency and is sitting in a backlog, which will probably clear up by itself eventually. I can't see them going to the expense of starting court action straight away and without double-checking the debt is still due.
  • i paid the 275 to sse but not the 35 to the collecters as the letter arrived after i paid    I have a email from sse confiming payment

Then your email from SSE that confirms payment trumps the collectors: I'd be tempted to write a letter to them stating the debt is settled, include a copy of that email, and tell them to go back to their client.
