Year after a car sale, found out they lied...

Not check oil in almost a year......almost serves you right4

Exactly my thoughts.dram increases with the price.A_Lert said:What makes you so sure your MOT garage aren't the ones lying? "no oil in the car at all, and literally a few more miles I could have wrecked the engine" but the engine failure hasn't happened already? That's one heck of a coincidence. And no sign of an oil leak either? This stinks like a week-old haddock.
OP. Which VXR is it? Most will likely be fitted with oil level sensors.1 -
The oil should always be checked monthly on an older performance car, why don't you do it ?
Why didn't you check the bushes had been done, the oil was a lovely golden colour and the filter was new when you took delivery.
Not bothering to open the bonnet and get down on your knees to have a check was a bit stupid.1 -
you not checking oil level is def an issue, maybe the current garage is lying, you would know that if you checked the oil level regularlyCrippsCorner said:I do check tyre pressures, but me checking things is not the issue here, thanks for your concern. The issue is whether I've been lied to by a company, which at this point I still believe I have.1 -
Really!? I've been driving 'older performance cars' for 16 years, and have always checked the basics when going on long journeys, but other than that regular servicing has kept me going all this time without any issues. Monthly seems very obsessive. As it happens, due to lockdowns, I haven't been on any long journeys so just never checked. I would have no idea on how to check bushes, is that something the general public would be recommended to do? Again seems a little obsessive.The_Fat_Controller said:The oil should always be checked monthly on an older performance car, why don't you do it ?

Anyway! This thread is going off on a tangent a little bit, because the oil/servicing is really only a side issue - I'm honestly not that bothered about. The main issue for me, is that: Car fails MOT on one thing, 12 months later, it fails on the same one thing. Just seems a bit too much of a coincidence...0 -
If you can't be bothered to do the usual regular under-the-bonnet checks that's up to you.
As for the failed bushes, personally I would have gotten down on my knees and confirmed they had been done, a year later it's too late to prove anything.2 -
It isn't. Your failure to check the oil level on your car, at all, for a year, is absolutely relevant to your claim that the original garage lied to you. You have no evidence that they didn't service the car before you bought it, and you have no evidence that the second garage is telling the truth about there being almost no oil in the car now. That puts their diagnosis of the suspension bushes into question, which means your claim that the first garage lied about them is on shaky ground.CrippsCorner said:

If you don't perform the basic checks required of you as a car owner, you are at risk of being done over by any unscrupulous garage. You may have been done over by the first, the second, both or neither, and you have little way of knowing which it is.10 -
So if the bushes were that worn that the wheels were wobbling that much you didn't notice when you were driving? With that much play?
Fast forward to today, car is in for MOT and... car has failed on rear suspension arm bushes
my garage have told me they're so worn that when my car was on the ramp in the air, my wheels were wobbling backwards and forwards. She also told me there was no oil in the car at all, and literally a few more miles I could have wrecked the engine. Now I only did around 2,500 miles in the last year, and there is no sign of any oil leak etc.

Why did you start this thread if you only want answers that agree with your point of view?CrippsCorner said:

If they were going to do that, why would they have bothered failing it at all in the first place?CrippsCorner said:
My believing is that they did nothing at all - They gave me a 'dodgy' MOT so it looked good on paper, but no work was actually undertaken.davidmcn said:So what did they do to get it passed last year if they hadn't replaced the suspension bushes? Is there maybe some other problem causing them to wear out?1
