Have you tried a reboot? That's a good starting point.

  • Hi,

    I don't have a Sky+ box so I don't know alot about it.

You might want to visit the forum on the following site since the people there know alot about Sky.

If you post here or there.....I think a more detailed description of the issue is needed.

Does it freeze on playback of recorded problems or all programs?
Do you heard a clicking noise from the box?
    How old is your box?

  • Hi Thanks for your responses. The unit freezes on playback and stopped recording in the middle of a program a couple of times. The box is about 4 years old but has a new 2 year old hard drive. How do I reboot? Thanks Neil
  • Hi,

You could try to put the box in standby, disconnect power at the mains, wait a few minutes, and reconnect at the mains, and power up the box.

I did find another thing on the net to try but this would cause all recordings to be lost. I repeat, all recordings would be lost.

To do this you have to do a 'Full System Reset':
    1. Press Services
    2. Press 4
    3. Press 01 then Select
    4. Press 8 (Housekeeping)

    Also someone else posted:

TO RESET SKY+ BOX – Disconnect power wait 10 secs
Connect power while hold BACK-UP button on front panel
for 5 – 10 secs. All 4 lights on front will light.

TO FORMAT & DEFRAG SKY+ — Disconnect power wait 10 secs.
Connect power while hold LEFT + RIGHT button on front
Panel for 15 – 30 secs. All lights on front will light.

Of course, if your box is making a heavy ticking noise, then the harddisk might be going again.

It's probably the hard drive. I've just had to change mine. The old one was red hot - I assume the bearings on the spindle had seized. Mind you, 4 years old and basically running all the time so not bad.
Anyhow, it runs a lot quietr, cooler and has a nice 80GB sat in it now. Really really simple to change one.
