New Armchair for elderly person

We recently bought a recliner armchair for an elderly relative. We were able to go to the shop, more than, once sit in it for 20-30 mins, then ordered one. When it came it looked fine, however the back of the chair is very uncomfortable and she is unable to sit in it at all. I have tried it too and I agree with her and would not want to sit in it either. I want to contact the shop about it to see if they can do anything but don’t know what to ask for. If they could help with making to back of the chair more comfortable it would be a good buy. It’s the right size and height and the seat is ok.
When she spoke to them on the phone they told her ( and she’s 90! And we’re in the middle of a pandemic) that she should get people to come and sit in it to soften it up and he was not particularly nice about it either.
Any help with what I should ask for when I ring them in regards to making the chair fit for purpose?

It really depends on whether there's a fault or whether it is a case of it just needing to soften up over time. It's possible the showroom model has been sat in many times and has softened as a result. However, you say it's "very uncomfortable", which suggests there's a problem or a fault. I'd ask them to come and check it on that basis.
On another note, did you get the VAT exemption for your relative if she was eligible? You can get VAT exemption if the user is chronically ill or disabled and at 90, there's a good chance of one or both of those applying.0 -
Yes I did thank you0
