SEISS 4th Grant Eligibility

I have qualified for all 3 previous SEISS grants and received them with no problem. On January 31st I filed and paid my tax return online like normal via bank transfer (I have bank statements to verify this) HMRC received the money as seen on my .Gov self assessment account within 24 hours
However, along the way there seems to have been an administrative glitch in the system. Although full tax payment was sent to and received by HMRC on Jan 31st, it appears my return didn’t 100% register. And now from what I can read if the self employed didn’t file a return by midnight March 3rd they aren’t eligible for the grant?
The day after the budget announcement I signed into my Gov gateway and to my horror saw my 2019/2020 return had not been 100% submitted! Even though I did submit it Jan 31st and generate my yearly deductible tax, and paid it Jan 31st also.
So I suppose my question is: do you think I will be eligible? Or what can I do to check eligibility? HMRC received my tax bill January 31st, but due to some kind of error the system states I filed the return on 3rd March (the day I logged back in to check about grants) even though I filed Jan 31st and paid the same day.
I hope this makes sense and would appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Planning to contact HMRC tomorrow via web chat/phone call also.
Thank you,
Scott

I can't answer your question but the final date to file your return is 2nd March and not 3rd March.

If it was a glitch in the system, just provide them the submission reference. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride2

Did you get confirmation that your return had been submitted? If you did, there will a reference number on it to allow HMRC to trace it through the system.
Did you perhaps press the save button instead of the submit button when you completed the return?.1 -
If you’ve got a reference number, you’ll be okay. If you don’t, I believe they’ve excluded everyone who had this problem last time - they said it had to be a hard deadline, even when people took it through multiple layers of appeal.
You’ll be able to do the same, but I wouldn’t expect much.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:1 -
UpdateSpoke to HMRC today who have advised the following. Due to the 24 hr late return there is a very high possibility I will not initially qualify or be eligible. The advisor has placed a notification / note onto my account which shows I had every intention of submitting the return on 31st January but apparently pressed ‘save’ rather than ‘submit’If I do not qualify the advisor strongly recommended appealing because they could see that on my account the tax bill was in fact paid 31st Jan.I was told upon appealing and explaining everything correctly using my bank statements and screen shots from my self assessment (showing the money credited Jan 31st) I would have a very strong case which the advisor seemed to think would definitely have grounds to make me eligible. This is however HMRC so I can only hope for the best but obviously expect the worse case scenario.Thank you to everyone for your input so far.

After reading this post by accident a few weeks ago I just double checked my own tax return and I had an identical thing happen. To my shock my own return had not been submitted. It was submitted in Mid january originally, paid in Mid Jan and I saved my submitted tax return with a submission number clearly displayed on every page. I have the document saved with an original download and saved and time stamped. Funnily enough, when I re-submitted the return in early March after reading this post it states an identical submission number.
My guess is this was all caused by a system error at HMRC and it reverted back to the previous back up and that was prior to me submitting it so it wiped my submission out. I just get passed in between departments each blaming the other one and so far I've got nowhere. But I shall keep on holding to hold music and each time I have half a day free to get passed in between departments I'll keep calling. Everybody I speak to is polite and I get the feeling that they want to help but they donlt have any idea how to help.
They have absolutely no mechanism to send them a copy of the proof that I hold that it was not in my imagination and I did not make a mistake.
If anybody else has experienced the same then it would be interesting to read. my own return was submitted on 19th Jan 2021.

They have to ask the back office to intervene. Your submission reernce number is enough proof.
Hpwever, I have read there has been a system probem this year that is known about and the bods at HMRC are working on the probelm and transferring the returns over manually.0
