You made the recording that was emailed to you anonymously, or are we talking of another recording? Sorry I'm confused?
We now don't know who to think is lying.  Probably there is no recording, no email, no defamation, no colleagues.
I needed this to stop.  And I needed to know why it was happening.
You should have raised the matter with your line management/HR a long time back. Why did you lie when you posted on here? Is there more to the real story than you are telling.
No.  Nothing else.  My line manager is aware that something is going on and said that he would say something at the next staff meeting.  He seems reluctant to hold a staff meeting.  He said there’s one at the end of March.  He’s scared of confronting them.
But it's already been brought to their attention you said? (your post 19 March) And it's with HR.
Your manager should now leave well alone.
Do you think they will want to listen to the recording?  I did record it myself which isn't legal.  Although a solicitor did tell me that I could put down that I believed that my actions were a protected act.
Do I think who will want to listen to it?

And your solicitor said, you could put what down where?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

That the reason I took the recording was because I believe it to be a protected act in my statement to HR about the matter.  They've asked for a statement.

OK, so I think I've missed a bit.
You confronted your colleagues and you took it to HR, or...
You confronted HR and want your manager to confront your colleagues?
I'm not sure on the above sorry.

Either way it's with HR now yes? And you have a solicitor? If so, I would use the solicitor after all they are who you are paying and go on their advice.

OK  I confronted the colleagues on Friday.  One of them went and complained and the manager sent it to HR.  The solicitor isn't really my solicitor as he just gave some advice over the phone.  I am not a client and he didn't ask for payment.  He said that I could be knackered if there's something in the contract prohibiting secret recording but I'm not aware of that.  I've also been there less than 2 years so they could easily get rid of me.  It's a mess.   This is my first time for something like this.  I'll just have to face the music.

You intentionally confronted your colleagues knowingly recording them, i.e. to entrap them?

The recording was made two weeks ago.  I confronted them about something that someone had said in it about me without naming anyone.  I confronted them on Friday.
  • I've been at my place of work for almost four years and enjoying it and had quite a good relationship with my co-workers.

Why does your story keep changing? Have you been there nearly 4 years or less than 2?

Tell these people exactly what you think of them and put them in their place if, do not let them think you are scared or it will get worse. Also report this to management asap as it is bullying.
