Problems with other employees at work

In actual fact I made the recording. And I may be in trouble for doing so. I foolishly confronted them today and a complaint has been made to HR.MalMonroe said:How very childish of your colleagues. Bullying behaviour one would expect of adolescents at school, really. Not grown adults.
Yes, do report it to your manager and make sure that you play that recording too. If your manager dismisses it, you need to take it higher to more senior staff as well as HR. Not one or the other, this is very serious.
The fact that someone has recorded the conversation leads me to think that, although it does sound as if it's distressing to hear, someone is on your side and wanting you to know what people are saying about you. Pity they remain anonymous but an IT person (there must be some at your place of work) would easily be able to trace the sender of that email, anyway.
This really is unacceptable behaviour in the workplace. You would be well within your rights to sue those gossipy colleagues for slander, as well as your employer for allowing it to happen. Those people should be careful not only about what they say but to ensure that their conversation is not being recorded. A recording is proof positive and not just hearsay. I think and hope that they will come to regret that conversation.
You could also contact Acas and see if they can suggest what step to take next. Hang on to that recording, it's going to come in very handy! https://www.acas.org.uk/contact0 -
You made the recording that was emailed to you anonymously, or are we talking of another recording? Sorry I'm confused?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

We now don't know who to think is lying. Probably there is no recording, no email, no defamation, no colleagues.74jax said:You made the recording that was emailed to you anonymously, or are we talking of another recording? Sorry I'm confused?2 -
I made the recording. It wasn't emailed to me. I was considering going with that narrative. But I think it's best to be honest or I will be in even more bother if that's possible.74jax said:You made the recording that was emailed to you anonymously, or are we talking of another recording? I needed this to stop. And I needed to know why it was happening. It isn't legal to record a conversation without the participants knowing. I considered saying the audio was sent to me as a way of getting around the law which I don't think is fair. I don't think what I did was morally wrong but it likely legally wrong. I had just had enough. I couldn't continue with this state of affairs. Have you been in that situation ever?General_Grant said:

Whatever you do - DONT lie (which is what you are doing/considering)
If/when that is discovered any credibility you have will disappear into the sunset1 -
You should have raised the matter with your line management/HR a long time back. Why did you lie when you posted on here? Is there more to the real story than you are telling.Hiberth said:

No. Nothing else. My line manager is aware that something is going on and said that he would say something at the next staff meeting. He seems reluctant to hold a staff meeting. He said there’s one at the end of March. He’s scared of confronting them.Thrugelmir said:

But it's already been brought to their attention you said? (your post 19 March) And it's with HR.Hiberth said:

Do you think they will want to listen to the recording? I did record it myself which isn't legal. Although a solicitor did tell me that I could put down that I believed that my actions were a protected act.74jax said:
