Oven and hob from different brands?

Hi,
we have a gas hob and electric oven, both from Bosch. The oven is broken and needs replacement. Could I take any brand? Are the oven and hob completely independent? The gas hob must have some power for the spark to ignite the flame, does this come from the oven, or does the hob have their own power supply.? I'm a little reluctant to pull it all apart before I get a new one...

Yes, they are independent, but while some ovens can be plugged into a socket, AFAIK more powerful ones may require hard-wiring.

We have a gas AEG hob and an electric Neff oven (intentionally, as they had the features we wanted) I can't see any reason you need to stick with the current brand.

If the oven and hob are separate built-in items, then you can replace one and keep the other, and they can certainly both be different brands. Mine are - and they're also on opposite sides of the room!
On the other hand, you can also get freestanding cookers where a gas hob and electric oven are combined in one unit. If you have that kind of setup, you won't be able to change only one part.

Just to add, the hob will have it's own plug - usually hidden in a nearby cupboard that powers the igniter
