Switching bank accounts

When you switch bank accounts do all your accounts get switched? Current account and savings? And can you switch your children’s accounts at the same time? Even if they have regular monthly payments going in?

If you use CASS you specify which bank a/c is being switched- and as the name suggests it is current a/cs only.
The switch service is meant to transfer all outgoing payments ie DD &SOs. However incoming payments are redirected from the closed account- at least that is my understanding- for a long time after the event. I always notify all the firms etc with payments going in or out to ensure nothing gets mislaid!
There is nothing to stop you switching accounts without using the CASS service.
I don't know about children's accounts

Each switch switches ONE CURRENT account only.Note that you need to have an open current account to switch to, often the application to open an account will have an option to switch another account to it as well. You'll have to open savings accounts at the new bank separately, (unless the new bank opens a savings account automatically with each current account), and move money from the old savings account yourself. Also be aware that internal standing orders between your accounts at one bank may not transfer across.Eco Miser
