The great life reset

  • So, turns out that I don't have the personality type to update frequently  :D.  I think I best stick to monthly updates. My monthly saving target for 2021 is £640 aiming for a total of 16245 by December.  Currently these savings are invested in index funds so there will be wild variation month to month most likely.
So March was £10,500, have managed a slight short fall in savings of £600 for April and the invested total is sitting at £11,708 as of the 1st, target remains £16,245 by December.

May's update. Savings for this month are again £600, moved into the s&s isa. Total as of this morning is £12,729. Slightly nervous as that's 2 months of strong growth so expecting a drop soon (how pessimistic of me).
As it stands there's now £3516 of a gap between what we have in the isa and the December target. Yay!

That sounds good for the savings target!
I’m with you on trying/ struggling to balance living life now and overpaying/future finance goals. We’ve decided to have a big wedding which isn’t very frugal! I’m sure there’s a balance somewhere 🙂
No advice on the baking though!

Thanks it is such a tough balance to find. I have no issues skipping on stuff, clothes etc. But experiences, days/nights out and big fabulous, memorable weddings are more difficult to skimp on!

June's  savings £700, a bit more than previous months. Total in isa now £13365 so only £2880 to hit this years target.  Enjoy the sun everyone.

So June was very spendy. There was the mot and service that came in at nearly twice my anticipated amount. The bathroom flooded and a whole host of plumbing issues came to light. By the end of the month there was nothing left in the current account!
July, because we are (fingers crossed) going on holiday (an hour and a half up the road but still, different house so it's a holiday!) I am only able to put £200 in the s&s isa.
    Mortgage currently £92959.90
S&S isa £14188.61 so only £2056.39 to hit this years target.
Mortgage offset against S&S isa is £78,771.29
To be in the 70s is a great feeling as it makes it feel like it is coming down rapidly.
I was very tempted by a hoise that has gone up for sale a couple of streets away but seeing these figures and knowing it's only about 5ish years and I'll be Mortgage free made me walk right by and not consider it!
    Happy sunny days everyone

Months saving 780 total in isa £14912. 1453 to go to hit December target.
The cost of our mortgage for a year is £15288 so we are only £376 away from having a years worth of mortgage payments which for me is massive.

780 put away, isa now sitting at £16267.83 so we've hit December's target  :) 😀 and it means we have a years worth of payments  put by if we need it. Setting a new target of £19000 by December although that was just randomly picking a number from the air! I've not checked mortgage total to offset as leaving that to September to surprise myself.

  • So October, things aren't so great. Stocks are down and I could only invest £120 this month due to home insurance/boiler service/a million birthdays/kids stuff and so on and so on. Currently sitting at £15914 which is a drop but hey, just need to keep going!
