MOT pricing - at different time of day

I was browsing the internet for MOT price for the big chain, come across Kwik fit (zero intention going there), was just wondering how much they charge, to my surprise, they have different pricing on different time of the day.

Morning start at £39, every 2 hours it drop to £35, £33 and £27.

I just don't get the business model for it, if someone wants to go there for their half price MOT, they would pick the cheapest time and they will have no client the other time of the day.

Why don't they just charge £27 at all time and 'find' fault lol :open_mouth:

Is there any company you aware of also have different pricing

Guaranteed fail at Kwik Fit. They use the cheap pricing to get you in then charge you for new brakes or shocks.

I pay £45 at local indie garage but at least it passes 90% of the times I've been there.

Perhaps it's as simple as they find most customers wanting early slots, so the variable pricing is to smooth demand through the day...?

That sort of variable-pricing's common. Ryanair/Easyjet, supermarket delivery slots.

It’s not something I’ve seen before,...but it’s a money saving innovation that might catch on.

Let's hear it for Kwik Fit! 😊

No way a £27 MOT is profitable, so ensure you are there to see it being carried out to witness any issues they find.

I get my MOT from my local council.  They tell me they don't test many private cars - they test mainly taxis - but as they don't have any interest in selling me anything, there is no temptation to invent issues. I was charged £45 last December for my MOT.
Yes .... I COULD have gone elsewhere for a cheaper test, but I trust the council MOT not to mess me about.

I tend to go for the half price MOT and take my car away if I think the repair is way overpriced.

I have been to council MOT before and it has failed, cost me £40+£20 retest fee.

So if it is reasonable, I wouldn't mind giving some money back (wiper, bulb, the cheap stuff lol)

I took my car to a local council test place once.

They made it VERY clear I wasn't welcome, and gave me a fail sheet a mile long... Strange, then, that when I took it elsewhere the following day, it passed...

    I took the hint.
