https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6236498/council-put-up-a-parking-sign-while-i-was-gone-worth-appealing
On the advice of @beamerguy I put an FOI request in which told me that the signage was erected on 12/01; the day after the ticket had been issued, so it was pretty ridiculous for a ticket to have been issued, and I put in a formal appeal. I didn't mention the FOI and I just said the same thing as the informal appeal, because I wanted to see what would happen if it went to adjudication. Unfortunately, it didn't even get that far, and they sent me a letter saying "as this is the first PCN you have received, I can confirm that your PCN has now been cancelled. Should you receive a similar PCN in the future, we may not be able to cancel it as all signage is in place". This seems like a bit of a cop out to me, but glad it's sorted.
Thanks to everyone who gave advice.

Consider complaining to your MP, Trading Standards, their ATA, and the local press. your could also send them an invoice for your time. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Well done for getting it cancelled at second challenge/appeal stage. Just proves that Coucil PCNs are often issued for spurious reasons, as we know, and are easy enough to appeal as long as people stand firm and go through all stages.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have twice been issued with Council tickets which they refused to cancel and had them overturned at PATAS. I wonder if it has anything to do with the rude stuff i have written about the Council Traffic Czar twice convicted for cottaging..You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Ive always been under the impression that council ticket almost always take two hops to cancel, with the first appeal routinely being turned down

The last time they tried it it must have cost them a pretty penny. I SARed them and they supplied almost a half a kilo of documents. I also went after them very robustly for costs, (unsuccessfully). All for a £30 fineYou never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
