Nectar Points - Security Breach

Options
Warning: Check your Nectar points! Just had my card hacked for the 2nd time and all my accrued points spent in a store hundreds of miles from where I live. And this is after getting a new card, regularly updating my password and not letting the card out of my sight! They took 7,000 points in one go, which I noticed the the following morning and immediately reported it to the Nectar Support Team who - fair play to them -  froze the account and are re-issuing me a new card with the redeemed points reinstated. As we can't travel during lockdown, I can only assume this is, yet another, hacker getting into the Nectar Card system and swiping points off people's cards. I did suggest they take a good look at their security system, as I can't believe I'm the only one who's experienced this twice.

My assumption would be that either whilst you change your passwords they are not unique and/or easy to work out, or that one or more of your devices has been compromised. In these instances it is almost always the individual who is the weak point in the system.
  • Dear MattMattMattUK, Thank you for your assumptions but, unfortunately, they're incorrect. As a former employee of Sainsbury's, I know how points can and can't be redeemed (Which I'm not revealing publicly) I'm incredibly vigilant re: security issues and, although I usually value other people's opinions, I'll give yours a miss. Respect.
