Last year someone gave me a pot of tête à tête daffodils - the sort that is forced in order to bloom early and cheer you up in early spring.

i left them in the pot and this year they have grown well but are blind.  Are they worth keeping or do I just chuck them out?  Instructions on the net seem to assume blind daffodils are outside in the ground ...

    Plant them out.
Make sure they are at a depth at least twice the size of the bulb and give them some BFBone.
They will have been in a small pot with poor compost and will have used up all the nutrients long ago as well as not being deep. With not being fed after flowering they are running on their reserves.
I have been buying those to put on the windowsill and then once over they go in the garden for years. I've had to stop because I've a garden full  ;)

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The compost on the pot would be drained of nutrients after one season
Add some feeding when you plant them out.
Make sure you leave the leaves on until they die down naturally. The leaves feed the bulb for the next year.
  • Yes I agree about planting them out. I left some in pots for a couple of years but less came back each time.
