Way back in the 1980s I worked at an engineering company where shop floor workers were expected to do what they were told by the union if they wanted to keep their jobs. The company offered a 15% payrise and the union demanded 15.5% which the company refused. The union forced the shop floor workers out on strike for 3 weeks in order to get that extra 0.5% increase. They 'won', but just work out how long it would take the workforce to recoup the 3 weeks lost wages. Coincidentally I'm sure but in those days union reps had their full pay paid by the union when they were on strike.

15% rise wow. No wonder people these days say that we all had those type of rises in the past.TELLIT01 said:Way back in the 1980s I worked at an engineering company where shop floor workers were expected to do what they were told by the union if they wanted to keep their jobs.
