Student loan on share options?

Hi. I have received some share options via the company I work for and trying to decide what to do with them as they vest. I'm very new to share options and investments in general so was hoping someone could explain how tax implications work on share options? Is it typically just NI and tax at standard rate that is due at exercise and sale? Would this count as income for my student loan also i.e. the repayment would increase? How about when the share options are turned into shares instead, are tax implications the same on exercise including student loan? I understand that later sale of shares is subject to capital gains tax.
Thanks for all help.

You need to explain what kind of share options have. Do they say anything like "enterprise management incentives" or "company share option plan" or SAYE / Sharesave? Are the shares listed on a stock exchange. If no to the first questions and yes to the last then PAYE/NIC/student loan on exercise.0
