Composite door installation

Hi all,

I'm planning to get an Endurance Composite door installed in a few weeks.  I have selected a company to supply the door - they have really great reviews and are approved by Endurance.

They unfortunately don't fit doors themselves but have supplied the details of an independent door fitter who has fitted their doors for the last couple of years.  The door itself has a 10 year guarantee and the fitter is offering a 1 year guarantee on his fitting.

For an extra £250, I could use a company who'll supply and fit the door.  I'm not entirely sure which option to go for.  Is it pretty normal for people to buy a door from one place and have it fitted by an independent installer?  Or is it better to go for a company who will do the whole thing?

  • You've found the weak point in the scenario!

I very deliberately chose a supplier who would also install. Well, they sub-contracted the labour, but the warranty was comprehensive for the whole job.

If an unassociated company does the install, there is always the potential for arguments should the door cause problems later on; is it a door fault or has it been poorly fitted? This can always be resolved, but it may require an independent assessor, and who the heck wants to go down that route...

Having said that, usually with a quality door it'll be immediately clear who's to blame.

Having said that, there is thread on here about a comp door suffering from strange condensation - have a look. Now, imagine that door was supplied by one company and fitted by another - how do you reckon that would pan out? Not well.

Bottom line - it's always 'better' to have one person S&F. You just need to make a judgement as to whether it's worth the extra cost and hassle.

See? That didn't help at all :-)
