INRG

I agree with your comments. I would much rather hold an OEIC or IT such as VT Gravis Clean Energy Income Fund.Thrugelmir said:
Probably because the current Orsted share price is down some 35% on January 2021's high.MPN said:
Does INRG hold Orsted? It’s not in their top 10 holdings?Thrugelmir said:The INRG ETF became a self fulfilling investment fad. Driven by money flows into a concentrated group of stocks. Nothing wrong with the renewables sector. Providing stocks are bought at fair prices as that's what really matters. Orsted for example has had a torrid time recently. From construction issues, a tax bill from the Danish Government, a lack of wind resulting in a profit warning, to more recently it's wind turbines freezing in Texas.
It may be fad/fashion investing, however in my opinion clean energy funds certainly have a part to play in the future.
Vestas Wind Systems another INRG holding is also down 32% on it's recent high.
I know both stocks well as owned them as individual shares pre INRG. Sold out of both last year. Cashed in at a 94% gain for Vestas and 77% for Orsted. A reflection of how much the share prices rose over a short period of time.
Clean energy isn't a fad. The ETF is. A material difference. Understanding what's the under bonnet so to speak is key. Investment bankers will sell anything packaged as an ETF if it makes them a profit.2 -

I'm also down just under 20% on a 5k investment and was getting a little concerned. Would be interesting if those members pointing to the ETF as being the issue/fad could elucidate a little on what is meant by/how they would justify this interpretation.0 -
Is it because the ETF is eminently day-tradeable, with live pricing, whereas in an OEIC you can't try and time the markets with prices a day behind?1

Rhetorical questions. How did you find this particular ETF and what due diligence/research did you undertake prior to investing in it? How much of your personal decision to invest was swayed by positive media commentary regarding "new/green" energy stocks and an upward trending value?Shocking_Blue said:csgohan4 said:I'm almost 20% down for a small holding, but will be holding than selling, it's a long term investment, not a day trader stock for me.

As they say, you take the pain with the gain. I was down 20% at one point with some of my IAG shares, now almost 40% up. Although INRG is different in that respect, but nevertheless it's still an investment.
Renewable energy will be back in the spotlight once recovery stocks have been squeezed dry and investors turn to other investments, hopefully."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I guess quite a bit - direction energy sector is moving, particular cos in fund (seen many members here extolling some of the individual holdings they have in these), recent past performance, yes, % of portfolio, comparison with other funds in the same sector, media not, did pick up some positive comments on this from other members, general reading around difference between ETFs and OEICs...not a pro or working at all in this field..just interested in the ETF explanation commentThrugelmir said:

Now down 6.60%! Big sell off.0

5% is not a huge swing if you are there for the long term. I hold RTZ which is down 9% today. Just looking at the chart of your fund without researching further, I would consider waiting for the chart to stop pointing downwards before buying. If you want to look at big swings (yes, it sometimes seems like a playground!), I bought some put options today for 5c and they expired minutes later at 78c. It's just as easy to lose money though. The A4 661 call options expired worthless. I need to be careful as the buzz from winning is much greater than the sigh from losing. It's easy to get carried away.Sally57 said:INRG down another 5% today at around 975 from a year high of 1450. Is the bubble bursting on renewables or clean energy funds or is it a good time to invest? I personally have topped up my holding today. Any thoughts?

Have a google for ARK and Cathie Wood. Inflows and outflows in a short space of time are extraordinary. INRG whilst considerably smaller is a similar trend. Millions of retail investors can influence markets if they act in unison. Instanteous app trading makes this so easy and now appears to be distorting markets. .Shocking_Blue said:
