  • These are the costs we have to factor in to each deal from when we purchase a car:
    Sourcing fee / auction fee
    Collection or delivery costs
PDI and MOT - at the absolute minimum - usually there will be a few dents and/or paintwork, a tyre or two maybe, a new service. Repaint / recon the alloys
If the PDI has picked up something wrong then we have to fix it (we prep our cars properly)
    Full wetvac, detail, valet
    Warranty
Then we have our overheads - staff, building etc etc
And then, after all that...we have to pay VAT marginal on the profit.

Thanks for the insights And your time - it’s made it much clearer for me

with car buying websites it really depends, sometimes they quote decent prices but sometimes their quotes are crazy low. If you want an idea of what you should be paying use other valuation tools (parkers, whatcar etc) and look at their estimate for buying the car from a dealer (valuations for buying / selling and private/dealer will be different)
  • dad sold a car to WBAC and asked which dealer/s car went to british car auctions both owned by the same company so they make loads of money by the buyer premiums. WBAC will give you the online price if your car is as good as described and you don't come someone that is a bit greedy. the WBAC person you deal with also got commission but they can let you have some of it, well this was about 4/5 years ago.  dad was happy as he got a better deal with no p/x and a lot more than if he'd p/x'd.
