Warranty and End of Life products

Hi all, so in December 2020 my pc motherboard developed a fault and i contacted the manufacturer as it was in Warranty. They told me that scan.co.uk where i'd bought it from dealt with warranties and to take it up with them.
I did exactly that and they sent me an RMA number and shipping label and i dropped it off with DPD on 22nd December 2020.
The package tracking showed that the parcel never reached scan and so by mid January i had confirmation from DPD that it was lost and that i should contact scan for them to submit a claim and them issue me with a refund/credit note or replacement item. At this time i purchased a replacement motherboard as my pc had been out of action for about a month and i contacted scan as advised who told me they had to investigate and would come back to me. I heard nothing till 29th January when mysteriously they told me they'd located the product and tested it as faulty and was waiting replacement or credit.
Fast forward to the 11th February and having heard nothing again i called them on the phone. I spoke to a chap (forgot to get his name) who told me they'd shipped the board back to the manufacturer in Europe to be repaired and i was realistically looking end of March to early April for a resolution. At the time the same motherboard was still being sold by scan and i asked about just getting a replacement sent to me as it had been so long and it would be the quickest outcome. I was told that they cannot do that, i must wait for y motherboard to be repaired.
Saturday 1st March i received an email saying my motherboard is now End of Life and therefore cannot be repaired and so i must choose an alternative to the value of £116.66 + VAT (£139.99).
I have a few problems with this
A : I have already purchased a replacement board when mine went missing
B : A new board is not compatible with my current hardware which would mean i would have to spend a few hundred pounds on new components to make the new board work.
C : The only motherboard they have on site within the quoted price is seriously lacking in features and is a very low end board compared the high end board i sent back for repair.
D : i have waited nearly 3 months and although the world is currently in an unusual state none of this my fault.
I asked about redeeming that £139.99 toward other products on their site and was told no, it must be another motherboard.
I asked about getting a credit note with them as they wouldn't loose seeing as i could only redeem the credit not with them and was told no
I asked about purchasing a different more expensive motherboard and paying the difference and was told no, it must fall within the £139.99 price quoted.
I feel they are being really unfair here and would like to know what options i have?

Sorry for the long post but hoping someone me be able to give me some info i can send them that will force them to be a bit more co-operative.

Thanks and regards

As it's a warranty claim, as long as they're adhering to the terms of the warranty they are doing nothing wrong.  Do the warranty terms provide a solution you would be happy with? If not, choose the one that's the most preferable.
  • The manufacturers warranty claims if its end of life it will be replaced with a like for like or better product. They're telling me i have to pick a board to the value of £139.99 of which they only have one and it is a low end board not a high end board like i purchased, has less features and is unusable by me without spending at least £300 pounds on a new cpu and cooler.

Then you need to dispute how like-for-like their offered board is.
  • Seeing as they won't even let me choose a more expensive board and pay the difference am I being unreasonable in asking for some form of credit to use on a future order instead of a replacement motherboard? I don't see how they would be loosing out from that as the credit would only be usable on their site?

So you are saying you will have to spend £300 on new parts for this board. Yet want to spend more on a different newer board. Will you not then have to spend another £300 with that?

No i don't want to spend more money at all. I just wanted my board repairing and once it was i was planning to sell it on as i already have a working one i bought when mine went missing in December.
What i figure now though is the one they have available for the price range is such a low end board if they are going to force me to purchase a motherboard then i should have the right to purchase a better one and pay the difference and then it be my choice whether to sell that board or invest in a new cpu/cooler not them forcing my hand hence my request to do so or get a credit toward an order.

Can you post the wording of what the warranty provides?  Does it provide the option you would like?

( i should have the right to purchase a better one and pay the difference)
never seen a warranty that says that .
Reads as OP is confusing Right  under warranty  as opposed to rights under consumer law .
  • Just to update this thread. I decided to call Scan on the telephone this morning instead of communication via email which has been taking on average four days for a response. I spoke to a guy for a good 30 minutes and relayed my above situation with the package getting lost, me purchasing a replacement, my board being shipped off etc and he agreed to issue a credit note to the value of £139.99 to my email address which should arrive some time today.
I really wasn't trying to be awkward i just felt that with all the messing around and time passed i had more options but don't know anything about consumer rights.
