Fencing

Options
Hi there
last year I had my fence replaced and stupidly did not think about treating my studio at the same time. The fencing company were good and I’m getting them to quote for replacing a 2nd fence and I mentioned would it be possible to have the 1st  fence panel removed whilst they were there so I could treat the studio and then they put it back. As I’ve got concrete posts where the fence is slotted in, I didn’t think it would be a big deal but the person on the phone said it might be a problem or increase the cost significantly to do this. Is this really right? I could call around and get a few quotes but I would have thought this wasn’t too big of a deal. Any thoughts would be appreciated

  • It's a two minute job to slide a fence panel out and back. If they don't want to do it they can charge what they like to put you off doing it. I wouldn't personally charge as long as you were done painting by the time I left.
  • Photo of this miscreant panel?

It certainly doesn't sound right; if it's a 'slotted' concrete panel, it's surely just a case of whatever holds it in place - a few screws? - and lift it right up.

I guess it's 'labour-intensive', tho' - ie they'll remove it when they do the second fence, but then need to come back again to refit, so two trips? I wonder if that's what they're warning you about? Even so... you've given them two fences to build, they surely ought to be grateful and be happy to oblige?

Anyhoo, photo please, 'cos on the surface it doesn't make sense.

Assuming they can have access to the other side it will be out in about 60 seconds.

Reading your post again, I suspect the person on the phone just didn't fully understand your situation, or assumed you were asking for a fence section to be 'dismantled' or similar, which on a built-on-site fence could be pretty destructive (eg a lap fence on arris rails with numerous nails in it.

They've already built a fence for you and you are giving them a second fence to do! That should be an "Of course - no problem!"

How are they working out this quote for you - is someone coming out to survey? If so, ask them.
