Bank Bribe

Hi all.
I want to switch my bank account to the HSBC to get the £125 bribe.
The FAQ’s say the usual, you are not allowed to have opened a savings account with them since January 1st. 2018.
However, later in it mentions not being an HSBC customer - I have a credit card with them, taken out only a few months go.
Can anybody advise me if I’ll still get the bribe?
Thanks
John

you'd have to read the T&Cs carefully, but i'd have thought you'd get the incentive if all you have with them is a credit card.1

You should be careful in a public forum using the word br**e regarding a major bank .1

it's not a bribe, it's an incentive.. but he doesn't need to be careful

I'm not aware of any condition that prevents you from getting the £125 if you have opened a savings account with them since 2018. Do you actually mean current account?JohnR1978 said:Hi all.

You only get the incentive for switching current accounts, it's not related to any savings account.

In fairness, if MSE itself can get away with using terms like "bribe" in its journalism, someone on a discussion forum is probably safe (for example: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/08/halifax-launches-p100-switching-offer-/ ).

I know HSBC is a dog, but you should relax a bit more sometimes. No one cares.Albermarle said:You should be careful in a public forum using the word br**e regarding a major bank .

You are right. Probably listened to too many corporate directives on the subject .[Deleted User] said:

Large companies are extremely sensitive on these issues nowadays . Even at Xmas , giving customers anything more than a pen or cheap diary is often banned in case it can be construed as a bribe of some sort.1 -
Ignore the fact that MSE regularly suggests that people accept bank "bribes" or use "mule" accounts to game the switching requirements. It's just sensationalist journalism written by people who don't really know what they are talking about pushing the limits of what they can get away with.
As for the incentive, if you read the T&Cs the only requirement is holding (or having previously held before a certain date) a HSBC/M&SBank/FD current account. There's no reference to CCs so you'll be fine as long as you meet all the requirements.1 -
John, you're fine with having a credit card, I was in exactly same position last time around when incentive was available and got the money.JohnR1978 said:Hi all.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're basing these comments solely on reading the MSE bank account article, which is never going to provide the definitive answer to eligibility queries like this. Always read the Ts & Cs published on the provider's own website, as these will explain the situation in accurate and authoritative wording, rather than a carelessly-compiled journalistic precis - the switch offer terms have been linked in an earlier post and answer your questions....JohnR1978 said:The FAQ’s say the usual, you are not allowed to have opened a savings account with them since January 1st. 2018.
