    You can get really good deals on new cars that beat the price of 1-2 year old ones if you go through a broker like drivethedeal.
    If you want to save money too I'd look at dropping changing brand to something like the Aygo/Citroen C1, same size roughly as the Up but better value because VW has a (possibly unfounded) reputation for quality.
