Complaint compensation

Hi All, I have recently had a pipe leaking within my property and it’s taken 6 days for the company to sort it out. The whole time my household has had no running water or heating. I’ve purchased bottled water and been cold for the days without heat. There were various issues with the engineers, including him digging up the wrong area looking for the pipes! There too much to go into but.....I’ve complained about the serve and was offered £75, then £200. I was after more like £50 per day plus the money for the bottled water. What would people suggest is a fair settlement?

What "company" are you talking about? A plumber you engaged to sort it out? The water distribution company? Your landlord?1

You have evidence of spending £300 on bottled water?0

Only you can say what feels fair to you, but be too greedy and they may just rescind the offers they've made! Bottled water and some electric heaters (assuming you still had power) would not have cost £200 over six days, so you've already been offered more than your out-of-pocket expenses. Tread carefully, or you may only get what it's actually cost you (£50, perhaps?)Kab16 said:Hi All, I have recently had a pipe leaking within my property and it’s taken 6 days for the company to sort it out. Why do you feel you should he paid £50 a day, how have you incurred that kind of cost? Bottled water costs £0.10 a litre or less and even running an electric heater all day us unlikely to cost you more than £5.00 so on what basis do you feel you should be paid £50 per day?Kab16 said:Hi All, I have recently had a pipe leaking within my property and it’s taken 6 days for the company to sort it out. Engineers have to dig for pipes, the records are often lacking and they will need to locate them, issues do not get fixed instantly, especially when they require engineering works.
Who commissioned the engineer, was the fault on your property or on public land and if you commissioned him and it was on your property did you provide him with detailed and accurate information as to the exact location of the pipes and the fault?0 -
You all seem to be forgetting about the 'emotional distress'2

Finding a leak in a water pipe can be a nightmare, so I'm not surprised they didn't necessarily look in the right place to begin with. It can be a rather lengthy process sometimes!
Our mains water pipe was probably leaking for about 10 years, and it took us 5 years to discover it! We had always blamed the slightly damp smell on the dogs, but upon taking the floorboard up for something else we discovered lots of damp. It took me AGES to find the leak.
Be careful what you demand as the £200 sounds VERY generous!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Has anybody thought about the children or the meatballs?I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

Put extra clothing on so you retain your body heat, do what you can to stay in 1 room.
Id take the £200 unless you can get a little from them.0 -
It's a shame Argos and Amazon don't offer quick delivery on £10 fan heaters.
Oh wait, this is 2021 and they do!2
