Hi all
Dose anyone know or have used a really good phone tracker?
Its for my 11yr old so we know if she got to school or got home ok. we have one but it wants her to have her WiFi on all the time to be accurate because at the moment it says she's about 1mile away from school.

You are leaving an 11 year old home alone?0

Model of phone you and your child have would be useful in understanding what it is capable of, good answer above about the Android tracking.
If you both have Apple, the "find friends" feature can do this, you can even set up alerts when the phone arrives at specific locations.
The location is determined by GPS and although that doesn't need a wifi or mobile data connection to operate, it does need one or the other to transmit the location back to whoever is interested - ie you.
Location tracking with GPS isn't always accurate though especially indoors. I had an issue where I checked my daughters location on Apple "Find my friends" and it showed up as the A&E department of the local hospital. I was really worried and made a flurry of calls and text messages that went unanswered but eventually found out she was where she was supposed to be, asleep at a friends house half a mile away from the hospital.0 -
Glossing over the potential foibles and ethical concerns, I use https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/phonetrack to track my own phones.
You do need a working NextCloud setup for this though. It does support geofencing, meaning you can create notifications if the phone leaves or enters defined areas. It also does proximity alerts, when one device comes into or leaves close proximity with another.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?0 -

sweetgirl2015 said:AnotherJoe said:You are leaving an 11 year old home alone? There is no UK law specifying a minimum age for leaving a child alone.Circumstances are different for everyone, my youngest daughter walked to and from from school alone and let herself in / out of the house alone from the age of 10 due to family and work circumstances. She was mature enough to do that and was at no unnecessary risk.4
