Whats included in the Annual Boiler Service?

Hi All,
Our boiler is 17 months old Worcester Combi Style 8000.
We are in area where there is too much scaling, It is recommended to add De-scaler in the system.
I have few queries if someone can help
1) Whats is included in a boiler service?
2) De-scaler and inhibitor, both can be added in the heating system via bathroom radiators?
Thanks in advance

I'd be surprised if you system isn't fitted with a de-scaling device as well as a filter and you don't need to regularly top up inhibitor unless you've had to drain the system at any time.
A boiler service will involve visual checks of the boiler internals, a flue check, gas pressure checks and other measurements to ensure the boiler is operating within the manufacturer specifications. As you no doubt have a magnetic filter then this would also be checked and cleaned.0 -
Thanks @neilmclI am sure that that the system is not fitted with a descaling device. Any recommendations will be highly appreciated. The system has not been drained since it was fitted but I have pressurized it couple of times in the last 17 months, so how to check the concentration and and idea on how to top it up if needed. There is one filter fitted on top of the boiler, its sentinel eliminator. How often one need to clean it?

I thought that magnetic scaler devices need to be fitted to the inlet pipe and a certain amount of pipe is required to accommodate this?No man is worth crawling on this earth.

1. Broadly speaking the water in the radiators never changes, so you don't need descaler at all. The inhibitor takes care of corrosion from the insides of the radiators.
2. If you regularly top up the pressure, you are adding fresh water to the system, which has a tendency to introduce further limescale and also to dilute the inhibitor. If you only top it up twice a year and it doesn't take much, then a 3 to 5 year complete change of inhibitor is sufficient.
3. With respect to servicing, check the installation and servicing manual for your boiler, and make sure the service engineer carries out all the nominated checks. I don't like the "if the flue gas ratios are OK nothing more is needed" process. Always useful to make sure there are no internal leaks or other issues which can kill a boiler in a relatively short time.0 -
Cleaning of components, checking of seals, checking for leaks. Expansion vessel pressure check. Working and inlet pressures. On Worcester’s a test is carried out on fan pressures, this will dictate whether the heat exchanger requires a clean. If so, service kits will beed to be purchased.Flue gas analysis on high and low rate.0

why didn't they fit a WB filter which have given you extra warentee the one you have is a very poor alternative, a scale inhibitor will be on the cold supply into the boiler so look for a sausage looking thing on one of the pipes, you should also have a mini expansion vessel on the same pipe, post up some pics of the boiler & pipeworkI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
