Why cant i burn a dvd? please help

i have just brought a new pc with vista and have downloaded a converter so that i can now see the film but for some reason it wont let me burn a dvd i can do audio no problem. i dont really know about computers so if anyone can help me it would be great as ive got 4 films on the pc and want to put them on discs for christmas. I dont know the difference between the dvds ive got dvd-r and dvd-rw was told in the shop these were the right ones but now am not sure when ive tried to play them after burning it just said no data or wrong disc please help its costing me a fortune:o

Vista could be the problem, have a google around for the drives model number and if anyone else is having the same issue

Can you post the model number of the drive?

Simple answer: Download and install; Nero 8

Don't install the ASK Toolbar and de-select any options to take over your computer.

Once installed, open StartSmart and go to Create and Edit Video or NeroVision 5 from within the Suite and do the same.

Choose Add Video Files and follow the instructions.

Make sure there is a DVD-R in the drive. It will take around two hours to create and burn the DVD Video..
