Had a lot of trouble finding potting compost last year and this year doesn't seem much better, at least if (like us) you need to have the stuff delivered. Argos are selling 2 bags of 40L Miracle-Gro for £8, with next day delivery for another £3.95: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8882567?clickSR=slp:term:multi purpose compost:1:8:1

I'm sure potting compost can be bought cheaper, especially if you can collect, but this price compares very favourably and is decent quality stuff.

How far away are you from a garden centre?  I get mine delivered from a GC that's about 10 miles from where I live, so that might be an option for you.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately the garden centres round here charge a fortune for the compost and then slap on a hefty delivery charge, so Argos worked out at about a third of the price!

Wow, that's mad!  I get free delivery for orders over £30 and seeing as I can't spend less than that anyway, it works out well for me.
  • Have you tried amazon especially if you have prime for free delivery, 40L is around £7.99

My local garden centre will deliver 3 for £14 + £3 for delivery under £25 order.  Loads of compost in stock.

Many thanks to everyone for taking the trouble to reply. Wilko appears to have plenty of compost in stock right now so have just placed an order with them - needed quite a lot of DIY stuff which took the total to over £100 so the usual £5 delivery fee was knocked off, which always cheers! Their stock levels fluctuate the whole time but ordering several bags of 4 different composts should ensure we get adequate, or possibly enough to keep us going into the autumn...
