Hertz 24/7 moving to a monthly membership system (£3/yr) AUTOMATIC OPT IN! NOT OPT OUT! BEWARE.
If you have ever used Hertz 24/7 for van rental like I have you will have probably had your card details saved in the app automatically. I got an email today explaining that they will charge everyone £3 on the 1st of April as part of a yearly fee if you want to keep using the service.
If you have no use for the app, or have used the app in the past. I suggest you contact hertz247member@hertz.com and ask them to remove your account.

Lots of views with no replies. I have had the same email, have contacted hertz through contact us because I cannot get into my account its been that long (years) since I hired a van from them. It must be a scam surely?

Not yet, it may be a while they are probably snowed under with emails. I can't get into my account, Im not even sure the card I used hiring the van is still valid. I will be keeping a close eye on this. I only used them because of a special offer they had on with B&Q at the time.

I'm in a similar situation as you. I know for a fact that all the cards they have on my account are expired tho. I also only used them because of the special b and q discount or else I wouldn't have used them at all.
I would like to keep the account active incase I make use of the offer again since its tied to my account unfortunately the email doesn't say anything about adding a new payment method to your account. Personally I think it's just a desperate cash grab before they pull out of the rental app market altogether.0 -
Update : They might be able to take payment from expired cards. I would'nt bother trying to get through to hertz as they seem useless. contact your bank and cancel any continuous payment authority with hertz if you remember which bank card you used.0

Grabbing £3/yr from dormant accounts is such a blatant money grabbing exercise by Hertz. It's shocking.
They could have easily just taken the £3 next time you make a booking and then each year after, but they clearly thought, "ooo, we're got all these accounts, let's grab £3 from all of them, even if they never plan on using our service again.".2 -
Just bumping the thread Does anyone know what's going on with this? I never got charged and it seems like they may have backtracked on the £3/yr thing. on their website it states its free again...
edit : some parts of the website say its free, others don't.. so who knows lol.0 -

Even if you reported the card as lost they can get the new card details via either Visa or Mastercard.
So if you can't get in through with them, contact you bank and get the payment stopped at that end.Life in the slow lane1 -
I've just logged on to my Hertz account and cancelled it. I think they have acted outrageously, and I certainly won't be using them ever again.
My card details have expired. Is it worth contacting the bank, anyway? The worst that happens is they take £3.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I have just received said email and also thought it was a scam. Now looking into it it is not. I hired a van from Hertz at Ikea about a year ago and they have sent me an email after they tried to take the £3 and my card bounced. So i sent them an email and attempted to remove my account on the app and then my card details and it wouldn't let me do either. The only way I can remove my card details is by providing a new one. I can't believe that they can take a membership fee without first offering you the option first.0
