Sounds like a good way of dissuading serial switchers to me, but what do I know!
Believe me, there's very little that puts off a serial switcher. As long as there is a fair amount of money to be made, having to jump through hoops is just one of those little annoyances that are easily dealt with.

I have been trying to open a account with FD for over 3 to 4 weeks now with their online checking, went through process, something, got a mail asking me to do it again so had to go through online  process again, waiting on them getting back to me again, if it doesnt work this time, i'll just forget it.
  • I applied a week ago, asked for ID etc, still dont know if its a yes or a no (to the account being opened/passed credit check etc). They told me they are approx 10 days behind when I called last week.

Hi Sheriff23. Yes, I am experiencing the same at the moment (I understand your frustration). And I believe there is at least one other post on this same subject (now closed). I went through the electronic ID process at least three times (I also get brain fog). I felt is very specific on what is acceptable and I had to retake shots because I have a tremor in my hands. I knew I needed to renew my passport to make things more direct (cost with photos around £120.50). I sent proof of address electronically - refused. I was then asked separately to send 'verified' documents for proof of address after the electronic rounds. This is not easy when you are on disability benefits and pain/physical mobility issues makes it get out to meet people. I however, went to library and printed thing directly for my accounts (cost 50p). I then paid the Post Office for their verification service (they saw and stamped the originals, photocopies, verified my new passport etc) - cost (approx £15 with postage). Received an email back saying before they even arrive that the Post Office aren't able to certify documents for First Direct accounts (save your money people!). I have been asked to call (more cost to me) to clarify their verification further. I hope that their only way to verify does not involve paying for legal help. I think that would be outside the realm of people in lower income brackets and I would need to re-consider if I want to be with them - the starting bonus it nearly negated with my expenses so far. Sherrif23, will you let me know if you get any joy with your checks? What to see if they are asking the same of everyone. Thanks

Just opened a joint current account with FD. Seemed fairly straightforward in that I can't remember any particular issues. HOWEVER - opening a Trading 212 ISA - different kettle of fish !!
