Sold house - still no money from solicitor

Options
Hi.
I completed the sale of my house last week and the solicitor told me late on Friday that the transaction of the balance to my account has been made. However, it's Sunday and I still haven't received the money. It was made by a Telegraphic Transfer I believe. As it's a large amount of money, i'm worrying about what might have happened as the solicitor said it should be either Friday or Saturday when I should see the money arrive. Then I started reading about conveyencing fraud and the Friday problem, etc, and got worried. Should I be?
Thanks.

  • CHAPS transfers aren't made at the weekend. You'll receive the funds on Monday.
  • We sold ours on a Friday and received the money the same afternoon.

I think it depends what you requested; if you requested immediate payment then that’s what it is but if you didn’t then it’s a few working days
My partner sold his house on the Friday and got the money the following week; about Wednesday/ Thursday I think
No point worrying about it today OP; should be in your account tomorrow

The cut-off for the solicitor getting the transfer done on the same day will be some time before close of business (will probably need approved by one or two senior folk in the firm and somebody to actually key the details in), say 3.30pm ish, so chances are it's in the pile for tomorrow morning. Pretty normal if completion is later in the day, their priority will be getting the completions actually done so nobody is living in their removal vans over the weekend.

All true. Besides, who’s going to be running off to S America with your money at the moment, with new strains of Covid cropping up all the time?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

However the money could be heading to my South American bank account after I hacked into the Solicitors email account and got Mary from accounts to send the £XXX,XXX to my account.
Lovely and Sunny over here 😎
    Have a good weekend

  • I completed on a Friday and the money was in my account the following Tuesday. My solicitor said it was extra for same day transfer so I went with the standard which I was told would be 2-3 working days and it arrived in 2.
  • Thank you everyone. Very much more at ease now having read all this. I think I read too much into them saying I should expect to receive it on Friday afternoon or on Saturday and then didn't. But roll on tomorrow. Thanks!
