Mortgage application with santander
my partner and I have just put a mortgage application in with Santander through a broker. My partner is on a permanent contract. As I’m on part time furlough, I had to provide a letter with the date id be back in work full time from my company. On the letter my boss stated I’m on a fixed term contract until August 2021 at which point it will be reviewed. I’ve been on a FTC since I joined the company in January 2020 and got a letter last year extending my contract and have been assured (unofficially) it will be getting extended again this year. How likely is it that this will affect my application. My broker said hopefully it shouldn’t cause any issues but just looking for other opinions.

@stevenb97 Your broker is unlikely to have submitted the application without having run this scenario past the lender. So I wouldn't worry too much.

He wasn’t aware until he saw the letter. He never asked what kind of contract I was on so I never told him as it didn’t cross my mind that it would affect the application.K_S said:@stevenb97 Your broker is unlikely to have submitted the application without having run this scenario past the lender. @stevenb97 Well that's unfortunate as he should have asked. Hopefully he has gone back and corrected the form as it has a section where it asks if the applicant is on a permenant, temp or fixed contract.stevenb97 said:

@stevenb97 I'd love to be able to give you a firm answer, but I just don't know nearly enough about the case and your circumstances to be able to comment on that.stevenb97 said:

Is there anything Santander may ask for to help the application? E.g. confirmation the contract has been extended in the past or anything like that? ThanksK_S said:

@stevenb97 I haven't placed an FTC with Santander recently, but this is their published evidence requirement.stevenb97 said:

My partner is permanent and I am was on an FTC when we applied for our mortgage through Bank of Ireland. I was only 6 months into a 12 month FTC but because I was in 4 years full-time employment previously by mortgage broker said there was nothing to worry about. I don't know what your situation was previously but if you have been in permanent positions previously you should be okay!1

Thanks. I started my FTC in January 2020 and it was due to run out August 2020 but got extended until August 2021. I was working in retail for 4 years previous to this part time but permanent so fingers crossed I should be ok thenAnnaNFriend said:My partner is permanent and I am was on an FTC when we applied for our mortgage through Bank of Ireland.
