Fire door to part converted garage

But then planning permission would be needed. And costs would be greater. I looked on the planning portal before we bought to see what others had done to their houses. You need the full hog, all the drawings, highways need to be involved because you're losing a parking space.... Highways don't know you're losing a parking space when you only convert the back half of the garageGanga said:
Thanks ,i ask as a house near me has just been bought and before moving in the new owners have had a toilet built in the back of the garage ,if they have planning permission i do not know ,just seems daft converting half a garage ,there is no room for a car in whats left ,might as well blocked it off and made it a full room.oniongirl said:From what I gathered during the buying process, you don't need planning permission if you're leaving the front of the garage as-is but you should get building regs sign off.
Ours had neither.
I like our little half-garage/half-utility. No one stores their cars in garages any more (except me. I would if it was still a whole garage, but it's not, so I can't.)
We will be converting eventually in to a study, if we ever have children and want the bedroom that I'm currently using as an office back.
Until then it works fine as it is. And the bedroom I work in is above the converted part of the garage, so I suspect it's warmer than it used to be now downstairs has the added insulation.

Any new connection to a foul water drain (sewer) will require BC sign off. PP may be required for change of use..Ganga said: Do you need Building Control/ Planning Permission to make half a garage into say a half bathroom /toilet ?
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
