Amazon Echo

Options
Hi
I am looking to buy an Amazon Echo. I see they are offering the Echo Show 5 for £39.99. I can also get the Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation plum colour) for the same price.
Is there much difference between the two in terms what they do and the quality of the sound? I am just really looking for a device which will play music I have on my Amazon music account. In the past I got an Amazon Echo (generation 3) much cheaper but I assume they are now nearly all gone with the new generation 4 now available.

Thanks

The show is good value at the moment (it's an old model) - I've got a 'dot' and several 'shows' - and find the show to have the better sound. It's also touchscreen so is easier to make adjustments - and can display a few things that are useful.. For me it would be a no brainer - the show over the dot.
  • I quite like the Show 5 since it shows lyrics to the songs when it plays and can also play videos; it also displays other information nicer such as weather forecast.

    They have very similar speakers.

If it's only sound and you can wait a month and can spend a little extra, then it will soon be Easter and the Echo is likely to be reduced again to around £60 and the other Echo may reduce by around £5.  The Echo (not Echo Dot) has a speaker almost twice the size and a couple of "tweeter" speakers and a Zigbee hub, which may be useful in the future for connecting smart devices locally such as light bulbs, etc.  The Echo (not Echo Dot) sounds better to me than the smaller devices, especially if you have a larger room, but the smaller devices sound good enough to me as long as you're not expecting any of them to sound as good as a "proper" hi-fi.

A further alternative could be their Cube or their soundbar.  Both basically combine a tv stick but annoyingly they apparently turn on the tv any time you play music.
