Opening Barclay’s Children’s Regular Savings account during lockdown at the branch

Hi, 

does anyone know how if I can open a Barclays children’s regular savings account - which allows only branch opening. 

I spoke to Barclays on the telephone and they said I needed to go into the branch to open this, and it’s allowed during covid and didn’t need a appointment and can be done by queuing up and over the counter as I already had opened previous accounts with them. 

However, today after queuing up at my local branch in Slough - Hamilton I was turned back as this was considered non essential and also said it needed a pre-booked appointment. And I had to wait till 8th of March to book an appointment. 

Is this the only way? Has anyone have any different experience of doing this?

I went to my local branch towards the end of last year to open one of these accounts and was told I needed to do it via their video app, so I downloaded the app and opened it later that day. When launching the app, you join a queue and wait for someone to be free - far more convenient than visiting a branch. If you do this, make sure you have the necessary documents to hand such as the full birth certificate and anything else mentioned - you have to photograph these as part of the opening process.
