Nationwide Travel Insurance

Evening all, just a quick question.
In anticipation of finally being able to travel again I have upgraded my nationwide FlexDirect to a FlexPlus (purely for the insurance/breakdown cover)
I also am in the fortunate position to have a long standing standard FlexAccount which still qualifies for the free European travel insurance.
Is having 2 travel insurance policies with Nationwide going to cause any issues?
Thanks in advance.

You can pay for as many travel insurances as you like. You just can't claim for the same incident with more than one insurance. At least not if you don't want to get into trouble. But check your policies for any further limitations.

Make sure that the cover afforded is sufficient for your needs.

But if they are different insurers could they each say you should claim from the other?
Of course both Nationwide policies could be with the same insurer.

If an insurance company become aware an insured event covered by their policy is also covered by another insurance policy then they will only pay out their share and expect you to claim on your other policy for the other share. If an insurance company pay out in full and then become aware of another policy they will come after you for half of the pay out back. You will never get more than 100% pay out in relation to any "insured event" no matter how many policies cover it.

The downside to having double coverage for the same thing is that should you have to make a claim you will have to make two claims, one to each insurance company, for their share of the pay out. It will also be registered as you making two claims even though they relate to the same event.

The fact they are both through Nationwide, who knows how things would work. It certainly wouldn't make things any easier.

I found Nationwide insurance provider very difficult to deal with when I tried to claim.

When my wife got a lung infection on a cruise they had already paid the bill before we had got home. No complaints.

A secure message to Nationwide with the question should elicit a response.

Bear in mind if you book a holiday with Nationwide FlexPlus travel cover when it is against FCO advice to travel there, they won't cover you if you need to make a claim even if the advice has been lifted when you travel.
