WARNING - Ebay account hijacking

Options
On Monday this week, I had both my ebay and email account hijacked. I was made aware of this by email telling me that some unauthorised listings had been placed on my account - sure enough they had and before long I could no longer sign in both ebay or email. I informed ebay of this straight away - they assured me that all listings had been cancelled and unauthorised fees recredited etc. I check the account by searching for seller by my ID and two items are still active on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Thursday afternoon, after coming home and find a cheque to me sent by post for one of the unauthorised listings, I use live help to get my account restored. I ask the rep what to do with the cheque as it has no item number or address included and get "I would suggest that you send it back to the buyer" - well thanks for that Einstein! But at this point I think it's sorted.

No such luck. Ebay STILL do not cancelled the active listings, I wait until the evening to see if they do and in the meantime, another purchase is made and more money is scammed so I cancel them myself.

All the sold item information is on my account and I can see that over £5.5K worth of ugg boots have been 'sold'. All the while I am still getting messages through ebay from people asking if I have any more for sale and whilst I can reply and tell them they've have a lucky escape, because the items have been deleted, I can't email the purchasers to tell them what has happened. Ebay claim to have informed everyone involved but I have still have further queries saying 'what is happening to my order?'

I've created an About Me page to try and warn people what has happened but in the meantime, I keep an eye on my account all of today, and would you believe it, the password gets changed again - but not by me! I do consider myself to be security aware and I definately have not responded to any phishing emails etc and I am very careful who I buy from. I thought this kind of thing would not happen to me.

I immediately let ebay know but they just do not seem bothered.

Hence my decision to close my ebay account. I won't have anymore people conned in my name and I would like as many people as possible warned about this.

That's awful. I can well imagine how upset you are.

Have you run a spyware/anti-virus check as a 2nd hack of your password sounds as though you may have a key-logging bug in your PC.
It aint over til I've done singing....
  • And don't forget to turn off system restore before you run the checks/scans as the nasty can hide in there and return when you switch back on again next time. Don't forget to turn it back on again afterwards.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

  • Thanks for your input everyone. Keylogging software is my worry and I will be checking that now.

I have been to Live Help - more than once in fact as they didn't remove active listings or remove 'sold' items or advise any of the buyers the first time. I put that down to me going on at 5:30pm, just being closing time.
  • Can anybody name any good software to have on pc to help avoid this happening?? thanks in advance
