Buying Ex Fleet, ex company vehicles

I have bought twice with good arrows you could say two ex fleet cars (with one owner and higher than average mileage), so I am looking to do so again. Are there specific dealers that sell these cars-or do the fleet company's, when they get the car back, send them straight to auction. In the past I have driven far and wide to get the car I wanted but I don't want to travel to far this time, I am in the North East of England.

AFAIK the lease companies tend to farm them off to auctions like BCA, especially if the lease term has been 4 years or more. There may be exceptions of course (e.g. for really good end-of-lease examples) but auction seems to be the norm.

The fleet companies send them to the same auctions as the personal lease and PCP cars tend to go to - because they're the same finance houses, for the most part...

Well over half of all new cars are fleet / company one way or another:

Odds-on that is what you'll get, particularly if you are buying at the 3-4 y.o. ex-company car age.
I don't have data to back this up, but my gut-feel is that the brand new cars purchased privately are probably more likely to be held onto for longer by the first owner.
  • trouble with buying at an auction you get no warranty - even if its 30 days - I would prefer to buy from a car dealer even though most of them are cowboys
