CCJ didn't update the Court

Options
Good morning.
I'm stuck as to what my potential options are, at the moment and was hoping you guys could help me.
I had a loan when I was 19 for £2,000. Being young and stupid, not an excuse, I didn't pay. Years later I got a CCJ for the amount back in 2016. I paid it off as soon as possible, believe it was 3 months. I thought it was 'Satisfied' on my Experian credit file, until I contacted them and they informed me it was 'Unsatisfied'. I contacted the Courts and they did confirm it to be true and instructed me to contact the company and inform them that they need to update the record to the Court. So I did that and I put in an official complaint to the company as this could have/did make me pay more unnecessary money.
Because of the 'Unsatisfied' account, I had to pay higher interest on finance for a car which I need due to having a newborn and needed a bigger car. Also, not being able to get a higher limit on a credit card due to this problem I was unaware of resulting in a negative impact on my credit file. Luckily I don't have anything on credit now as I'm wary and careful.
But the time has come for me to try and buy a house in April for my family and I've been working extremely hard on my credit file. I understand the problem was mine to become with, I get that. But they really messed up on their part by not informing the Court it was fully paid.
I'm currently waiting to hear from the company's complaint department.
Does anyone have any advice I should take so they don't do the same to others?

Hope you're all staying safe,
Martin P Parker

Not really. You can't influence any mistakes they may make in the future as it's invariably human error.

You've made your complaint, that's all you can do.
  • You have to pay a CCJ off within 30 days for it to not be recorded

Company might apologise for this but at the same time, you took the loan and chose not to pay it back, your defaulted debt would still have impacted your ability to borrow, whether or not the CCJ was satisfied so you will struggle to argue it's the company's fault you got worse rates

OP's complaint is not that it was recorded, but that it wasn't updated to satisfied. The 30 day limit has nothing to do with the dispute in this thread.

To OP, you have complained, so wait that to run it's course. They may give a goodwill payment, but can't see them doing much more. For you to seek redress, you would have to show financial detriment. The CCJ itself will have had the most impact and the status of whether it was satisfied or unsatisfied would be a much smaller element. Any lower interest credit denied because of the unsatisfied CCJ may have been denied purely on the CCJ not whether it was satisfied or unsatisfied.

I didn't say otherwise. If you read my post it makes that clear. OP paid it off in 3 months so it would have been recorded on their file either way. Settled or not, it would have been on their record for 6 years whereas it would be cleared if paid in 30 days (or they could argue legitimately it should be removed)
