Can anyone advise please? Time is running out apparently!?!

Hi All,
This is my first ever post here although I've read a few which seem similar. Soooo - A few weeks before the end of PPI claim deadline I did (what I thought) was fill a free claim form out from the finanial ombudsman (or something like that), anyway a few months after a letter came back that I had been successful with some, but not with others & I got a cheque. A little while after that I started to get text messages from INgenious legal saying that I owe them 'around' £300 for a claim that has been successful & will pay out soon!? (I'd already had it). I ignored these texts as they weren't addressing me by either my first name or surname, so I thought they were 'trying it on'.
I then started also getting emails from this company!! So I did what was advised to someone else on here & wrote a reply asking for documents showing my signature for them to act on my behalf as I honestly don't remember AT ALL getting this or any other company involved. I didn't hear back from my email, but all the time kept on getting texts and emails from them any time of day even on weekends!
This has now escalated to them telling me if they don't receive full payment in 7 days my debt and details will be passed to a debt collection agency!! I am worried to bits the only way I can contact INgenious legal is apparently through a porthole but that requires me to fill in more info about myself like my dob etc and frankly i don't want to. But at the same time i need this to stop!! Can anyone help me PLEASE?? I don't know what to do i am worried sick!! I don't have any money to pay them with I am disabled and on benefits and spent my ppi money on a new bed!! Is that wrong??
 TIA for any help........

  • Ask them for a copy of the contract. But it certainly sounds like you went to their site and employed them.

If you can't afford to pay in full, come to a payment arrangement with them.
  • The ombudsman does not do a free claim form, they handle disputes after a complaint has been made. It sounds like you did a check using a claims firm who submitted your complaint for you and now want their payment. You won the complaint so now you pay them for sending it off. They will happily keep hounding you until you pay up or something is arranged.
  • Hi again,
Sorry for asking more questions, but finally I have managed to speak with someone from INgenious legal & I asked them to show me rhe signature they had, because although I couldn't totally disagree with what they were saying , I just simply didn't remember signing up for anything- he proceeded to tell me it was most likely via an advert or link on FB which I had clicked on in 2019! (No wonder I couldn't remember lol). Anyhow, it turns out that the signature they have does pretty much look like mine, so I just have to suck it up & pay the invoice which I guess is fair enough......BUT this is where I now need your help please. The 'gentleman' from INgenious legal carried on to tell me that there had been an error with my invoice & they now have added an extra £500+!! Which I'll get told about when I phone through to the payments department. So I'm just looking for advice to see where I stand with this 'new' £500+ added making s total of over £800 to pay them!!  - I'm obviously kicking myself now for questioning things in the first place as I may have just paid off the first amount, then what would they have done?
Do I have a leg to stand on when it comes to 'fighting' or even trying to compromise over this latest issue?
As it stands they are aware that I don't work because of ill health & have said I can set up some kind of payment plan.
Thanks for any help and advice.
  • What does the contract state the fee will be?

They'd have contacted you for the outstanding amount.
  • What was the agreed % fee that they would charge? If they have charged you that fee then you owe it. If this extra fee is a miscalculation then yes you owe it. Ask them for a breakdown of the figures
