LISA Clarification

If I opened a LISA over a year ago with £1 in it, could I theoretically transfer £16,000 in today, get a £4,000 bonus on that within a month or so, and then use that for a deposit straight away?

Comments

  • No.

Lifetime ISA contribution limit is £4000 per tax year.
So you can pay in £4000 today.
£4000 on 6th April (new tax year).

You need to have the LISA running for one year ! So well done on opening it last year.
If you can get £4,000 in before the end of March you get the government £1,000 bonus.
Same again £4,000 after April 5th and you then have £10,000 towards your first property.
