Oh no how long did it take 

It took about 3 months. We had no idea of the mess when they knocked walls down.
We naively thought the builders would want to get it finished as soon as possible.
We went on holiday and came back and found them doing alsorts  of little jobs for the neighbours. I could go on and on. 
Top tip is keep on top of them. 
Make sure the quote includes everything such as electrics and carpentry as they tried to tell us it didn't include door frames
